BSR Training Facility - Manchin and several local leaders helped break ground Wednesday, September 26th on the site of the Summit Point Training Campus at the BSR Training Facility, which will boast more than 200 acres available for the development of an expected eight to 10 tenants. Since 1983, Bill Scott Racing has offered security training for federal, state and area agencies in the safety and homeland security fields ? assisting between 5,000 and 6,000 trainees per year. Just 75 miles from the nation?s capital, the facility will likely continue to rise to the forefront of the homeland security industry with the growth of its campus (due to client requests), which is expected to be constructed by March 2008. Plans for the training campus currently include a tactical training center operated by the U.S. Department of State Diplomatic Security Services, a gymnasium where trainees can learn skills like hand-to-hand combat and an indoor firing range. A dormitory is also in the works to help house trainees, and the Scotts said there is hope that a university will be enticed to join the campus, with the creation of a crisis-management degree program. The training campus will add jobs and solid economic growth for the region, Manchin said. ?This is real development,? he said of the $24 million investment. ?This is what it?s all about.?
