"My parents came to Shepherdstown in 1977 and this is where my brother and I were raised. As a business owner, I appreciate the fine quality of life offered in Jefferson County. The area is so rich with history and charm, while offering great recreational activities. It sounds cliché, but there really is something for everyone in Jefferson County. I can't think of a better place to live and work."

"It is only natural for us to continue and expand our family farm that was established in Jefferson County in 1872. We raise corn, soybeans, wheat, sorghum and hay. The 500 head Angus beef herd encompasses cow/calf production to finished steers that are antibiotic and hormone free and raised on home feeds."
"Our recycling enterprise uses horse manure and wood, such as stumps, trees, building lumber and pallets. The public brings us leaves and grass. These materials are "recycled" into mulch, horse bedding, sifted top soil and compost."
"Being part of the DC metropolitan area has created unique opportunities for us to expand beyond traditional agriculture with our sustainable recycling enterprise, as well as a local market for our beef cattle. Our affluent population supports the local Farmers Markets and agri-tourism events."

"Jefferson County was an ideal choice for our business to serve the Washington DC metro area. Quality of life, location, transportation and moderate business pace were key factors in our decision. We moved into our first journeyman office space in Burr Industrial Park in September 2005. As an Electronic Systems Contractor, our portfolio of services and quality workmanship were quickly recognized, allowing us to move to the Bardane Industrial Park and build out our own space twice the size in January 2008. Technology infrastructure, wired and wireless communication, and high speed internet are important to us and our customers, Bardane/Burr Park deliver and is an ideal location for rapid response to our IT customers. Our central warehouse and shop location are convenient for our local projects and other activity in the region."

For eight years, we enjoyed spending the weekend in our cabin on the Potomac River and then heading back to Washington, DC for another week of work. One day we asked ourselves, why did we stay in DC? After much thought and discussion, we decided to transition into a new lifestyle and career. After several months of looking for a suitable place to settle down, we found the place of our dreams in Kearneysville. Jefferson County met all of our requirements, which included close proximity to the MARC train station, affordable land, a thriving agricultural community, and access to academic and intellectual resources. The rest of our dream fell into place. We commuted by train for a couple more years, while we learned the ABCs of cow/calf operations. We took courses at the County Extension Office, planned land conservation for our farm with the local Natural Resources Conservation Service officials, and took advantage of many fine events and facilities at Shepherd University. We are now in our eighth year of loving our farm in Jefferson County, where we can nurture our souls and nourish our bodies.

After graduating from Shepherd University, I had the opportunity to move to several other states but chose to stay in my native WV and start my business in Jefferson County. Ten years later, Eden Design continues to strive in its mission of providing affordable marketing to help small businesses and non-profits achieve their visions that often nurture the community and improve the local economy. The number of residents I have met and worked with over the years are an amazing cross-section of people from all backgrounds who love this area and work hard to make it a great place to live, work, and raise a family. The proximity of our area to DC allows me to also work with companies from the metro area while remaining just minutes from my home and my son`s school. Another benefit is that Shepherd University provides a steady stream workforce through its interns and graduates.

When we were looking to expand our California operations, we discovered Jefferson County, West Virginia. It was a perfect fit for our business, putting us closer to key customers and vendors. We were able to tap into an exceptionally talented and hardworking local workforce. Our employees that relocated found affordable housing and an excellent lifestyle. We thank JCDA, Jefferson County, and the State of West Virginia for their support in making this expansion possible.
